Larch Cladding Boards HALFLAP
Crafted from high-quality, slow-grown larch wood, our HALFLAP cladding boards provide exceptional protection against the elements while adding a distinctive aesthetic with bold shadow lines. These elegant shadow lines accentuate the length of buildings or structures, offering a modern and visually seamless appearance. Commonly used for residential homes and commercial projects, these boards are a versatile choice.
Our larch wood is slow-grown to ensure the highest quality and is kiln-dried to approximately 16-18% moisture content (+/- 2%). They can be treated to achieve a fire classification of Euro Class B-s1, d0. The finishing sections can be installed both horizontally and vertically, with a smooth surface and a visible 14 mm shadow gap. The natural colour of the wood is untreated with oil, showcasing its inherent beauty.
Larch is one of the most unique types of timber available. It’s more resilient to cold than metal, possesses the characteristics of hardwood, and has a stone-like hardness that only becomes stronger with moisture. This makes it an excellent building material, known for its robustness, natural resistance to external factors, rot, and wood pests.
Durability
- Larch is naturally durable (Class 3 according to BS EN 350-2), making it ideal for outdoor use due to several factors:
- Its chemical composition offers high resistance to decay, making it one of the hardest and most durable softwoods.
- High density means decay organisms find it harder to penetrate the wood.
- With proper treatment and general outdoor exposure, the service life ranges from 50 to 100 years.
- The natural longevity of larch means it doesn’t need treatment, with any coatings applied purely for aesthetic purposes.
Density
Larch is an extremely dense wood, classified at approximately 630 kg/m³ at 18% moisture content according to BS EN 350-2. This density makes it highly resistant to damage, perfect for highly exposed areas or places prone to scratches and abrasions.
Stability
Our wood products are kiln-dried in convection dryers, ensuring the wood dries evenly and achieves optimal stability. Better dimensional stability can be achieved using narrower widths such as 120 mm and 95 mm.
